Queer Hauntings - True Tales of Gay & Lesbian Ghosts
For fans of the paranormal, Queer Hauntings - True Tales of Gay and Lesbian Ghosts is the perfect read for gay and even straight audiences alike.
Ken Summers’ account of the gay supernatural takes place all across the U.S. From Provincetown to Hollywood (California), these tales occur at the homes of gay and lesbians, gay bars, and even gay and lesbian-owned bed and breakfasts. Who knew that P-town was the home to ghosts that roam the Ranch guest house?
Some of the gay hauntings are historic in nature. One example is the Lizzie Borden case, where the infamous murderess supposedly haunts her old house. New England locals will get a kick out the many P-town ghosts that roam the bed and breakfast establishments in town.
Besides the United States, Summers also gives accounts of gay and lesbian haunts in the U.K., Canada, and even Africa. A summarized detail of similarly-themed websites and haunted gay establishments also appears in the appendices section of the book.
Of course, most of these stories appear to be tongue in cheek. Like the ghost in a New Orleans bar that pinches patrons on the butt. Or the "Bastinado Ghost", who is heard practicing S&M at a Louisiana pub.
One thing’s for sure: Summers knows how to tell a good story. But are these tales true? You have to decide for yourself. "Queer Hauntings" is a recommended read for this gay Halloween season.
