Who's The Caboose?

Jeremiah Tash READ TIME: 1 MIN.

Sarah Silverman stars in Who's the Caboose?, a tale about the pilot season in Hollywood. Silverman--the poster child for delivering vile phrases with a Pollyanna inflection--plays Susan, a fresh-faced actress with ambitions to leave New York and press her luck in show business. She tells her boyfriend, Max (Sam Seder), last-minute and he follows her out west and ends up stealing much of her thunder. Throughout the carnival Susan encounters freakish actresses, weird managers (Andy Dick), and appearances by Kathy Griffin, David Cross, and Marc Maron (all as characters) all showcase younger actors who were indeed trying to make it themselves.

Mockumentaries are perfect fodder for beings who struggle to achieve fame ("Waiting for Guffman", or struggle to maintain it "Spinal Tap"). The humor in "Caboose" is sometimes dated--the film was released in 1997--but every scene has industry jokes and satirical witticisms, many espoused by the deft-tongued Silverman herself. Fans will enjoy it, others may want to stick to Christpher Guest movies.
