Gawker Reports Condé Nast CFO Gay Porn Star Hookup, Outrage Ensues

EDGE READ TIME: 5 MIN.

Gawker reported on a bizarre alleged "sex scandal" that involves the CFO of Cond Nast, a gay porn star / escort, and a discrimination claim relating to 2016 presidential hopeful Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. Unsurprisingly, social media is outraged at the website for outing the exec and some are even calling for a boycott on Gawker.

In the report, Gawker alleges Cond Nast CFO, David Geithner, who happens to the be the brother of former Obama Treasure Secretary Tim Geithner, attempted to pay a gay porn star, who is only referred to as "Ryan" in the story, $2,500 for "2-3 hours" of his time. Gawker provides a number of screen shots of alleged text messages between Geithner and the gay porn star. According to the conversations, things were initially going well between the two, with Geithner even sending Ryan a selfie, sparking Ryan to comment that the CFO looks like Tom Cruise.

Gawker reports Geithner, who is married to a woman and has three children, planned to meet Ryan on July 11 in Chicago, and was willing to pay for airfare and hotel costs, as well as $1,250 up front for Ryan's time.

But the alleged meet up never happened, however. As the two texted in the days prior to the scheduled rendezvous (Ryan even sent Geithner a dick pic, according to the screen caps Gawker provided), Ryan figured out that Geithner is a big-time CFO who is also politically connected. And it just so happened that Ryan was in need of legal help.

Gawker reports Ryan, who lives in Texas, has an ongoing discrimination lawsuit between himself and his landlord.

"In 2013, Ryan was evicted from his luxury apartment building in Texas," Gawker writes. "He says it was because the company that owns the building discovered he was a gay porn star, but in legal documents his attorney stated that Ryan was kicked out for owning an emotional assistance dog to help ease his PTSD, which was against the building's rules."

Gawker goes on to write: "On April 21, 2014, the United States Department of Housing and Development (HUD) issued a 'determination of no reasonable cause' regarding Ryan's discrimination claim. The decision was appealed by his attorney to no avail, and so Ryan began investigating other methods to reverse the ruling, including contacting the FBI and, he says, officials in the Obama administration."

The website notes Ryan even sought help from Ted Cruz, his local senator. In April 2015, Cruz's office sent Ryan a letter saying they "initiated an inquiry" with HUD on Ryan's behalf but in May 2015, he received another letter from Cruz's office, stating HUD made a "final determination" on his case, and that HUD closed his case. HUD also said it could not investigate Ryan's case any further unless he provided "new and relevant information."

Nevertheless, Ryan is still determined to fight his case, and told Gawker Cruz's office is still in contact with him. He went on to say a Cruz employee contacted him Thursday "to say that the senator had personally called the HUD director on his behalf. It seems as if Cruz, in the midst of his Presidential campaign, sees an opportunity to help a veteran with PTSD who has been crushed by Washington bureaucracy," Gawker writes.

After learning who Geithner was, Ryan sent the CFO a PDF of his case, in hopes Geithner might be able to use his clout to change HUD's decision. At first, Geithner wasn't sure what Ryan was getting at, but Ryan allegedly texted him: "I want you to know my past before we meet for various reasons. Late Last night I figured out who you was and like I said you are a nice guy and I like to be perfectly honest with nice people . Because I don't want them to go through what I'm going through ."

Gawker reports the next time Geithner replied to Ryan, it was to cancel their alleged met up.

"Well - looks like I might not be able to make it. We're number 18 for take off and crew is running out of hours. If you get to Chicago I was able to get you a room at Trump. It's under your name and already paid for. And I can send you the balance of what I owed you by mail. Damn."

It's unclear if Giethner decided to cancel his alleged plans with Ryan on the airport runway in New York but Gawker writes, "It's possible that his plane was indeed delayed. Or, of course, he could have gotten spooked by an escort with an agenda who had discovered exactly who he was."

Ryan, however, didn't go to Chicago either, he told Gawker. He said he decided to bail because Geithner didn't care enough about his legal issue.

"I guess the only time most people think about injustice is when it happens to them," he texted Geithner.

Ryan told Gawker he doesn't have a problem with Geithner, but he just wants to publicize his case against HUD.

The day the story was published on Gawker, Ryan texted the CFO and told him he went to the press, but he didn't receive a response back until the Gawker reporter, Jordan Sargent, reached out to Geithner. Ryan later told Gawker Geithner said if Gawker could take down the story, he would bring the HUD complaint straight to President Barack Obama.

Geithner also gave a statement to Gawker about the story and the allegations.

"I don't know who this individual is. This is a shakedown. I have never had a text exchange with this individual. He clearly has an ulterior motive that has nothing to do with me," he said.

Though Gawker protected the gay porn star's identity, the NSFW gay porn site Str8UpGayPorn claims "Ryan" is Derek Truitt, who performs under the name Brodie Sinclair.

The website calls Truitt "a batshit insane conspiracy theorist" with a Facebook page that "might make Alex Jones blush." Str8UpGayPorn provides screen caps of Truitt's Facebook account and the conspiracy theories the porn star reportedly posted. The website also asks the question, "What the fuck were they doing using a batshit insane conspiracy theorist as the sole source and entire catalyst for their story?"

In the original Gawker story, the site writes, "Facebook page contains a number of videos and photographs advocating for a variety of conspiracy theories."

Nevertheless, Str8UpGayPorn also reports on the backlash Gawker has received on social media since revealing that Geithner allegedly tried to hook up with a gay porn star. A number of Twitter users are even calling for a boycott over outing the CFO.
