Is Caitlyn Jenner Lukewarm on Same Sex Marriage?

Caitlyn Jenner opened up about same sex marriage to Ellen DeGeneres in a taping of the first show of her 13th season and, in an excerpt released by TMZ, showed her more conservative roots. When she was Bruce, she confessed to being a Republican.

Here's the exchange when Caitlyn was asked about LGBT marriage by Ellen:

Ellen: I know you are very conservative and you have been very conservative. You've said you're Republican.

Caitlyn: Is that a bad thing?

Ellen: No, it's not... The only thing is you know that a lot of Republicans, I don't want to speak for everyone, would vote against all of the issues that you as a woman and you as a trans person would want someone to support.

Caitlyn: I would agree with that in some cases...

Ellen: And same sex marriage?

Caitlyn: Gay marriage? I have to admit that I remember 15 years ago, 20 years ago whatever it was when the whole gay marriage issue came up, at first I was not for it. I mean, I thought, I'm a traditionalist. I'm older than most people in the audience, you know. I kind of like tradition, and it has always been a man and a woman. And, I was thinking, I just don't quite get it. But as time has gone on I think like a lot of people on this issue have really changed their thinking here to I don't ever want to stand in front of anybody's happiness. That's not my job. Okay. If that word marriage is really, really that important to you, I can go with it.

Ellen: It's funny because you're still kind-of a little not onboard with it...

Caitlyn: No. I'm on board. It's gonna be, it's pretty much the law of the land. I'm okay with it. Because I don't want to stand in front of anybody's happiness.

Ellen: It's so interesting. I just think obviously marriage is an important word because marriage is marriage and equality is equality; so if we want the same word that everyone else has it wouldn't be civil union, it wouldn't be -- so equality is important for all of us.
