Trump Tweets About Pulse Anniversary and Twitter Wasn't Having It

READ TIME: 1 MIN.

President Donald Trump, who said during his 2016 campaign he'd be the best president for LGBTQ people, broke tradition by not proclaiming June Pride Month. Nevertheless, he decided to tweet about the gay club Pulse on the one year anniversary of the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history. Unsurprisingly, Twitter wasn't having it.

"We will NEVER FORGET the victims who lost their lives one year ago today in the horrific #PulseNightClub shooting. #OrlandoUnitedDay," Trump wrote, adding a photo of the 49 victims who died in the attack. His tweet earned nearly 20,000 retweets and over 74,000 likes.

Similar to his daughter Ivanka Trump, who tweeted about LGBTQ Pride earlier this month and faced a backlash, the president is being bombarded by tweets calling him out.

Vice President Mike Pence retweeted Trump's tweet, adding his own message about Pulse.

Of course, Twitter also went after Pence, who has a less than stellar record on LGBT rights.
