After 50 years, Mart Crowley's seminal gay drama "The Boys in the Band" is finally making it to Broadway with an all-star cast of out actors.

On Thursday, Hollywood power player Ryan Murphy ("American Horror Story") and Broadway mogul David Stone ("Wicked") announced that a limited engagement of "The Boys in the Band" will arrive on Broadway this spring for a 15-week run at the Booth Theatre. The 50th anniversary production will be directed by five-time Tony-award winner Joe Mantello ("The Normal Heart").

Set to star in the anniversary production is a line up of Broadway and Hollywood gay A-listers including Jim Parsons, Zachary Quinto, Matt Bomer and Andrew Rannells, as well as Robin de Jess, Brian Hutchison, Michael Benjamin Washington and Tuc Watkins.

Loathed and loved by many, "The Boys in the Band" centers around a group of gay friends who meet at a friend's apartment to celebrate a birthday. As the booze flows, jokes turn into jabs and ugly truths and realities are revealed.

"The significance of 'The Boys in the Band' cannot be underestimated. In 1968, Mart Crowley made theatrical history by giving voice to gay men onstage, in this uncompromising, blisteringly honest, and wickedly funny play," Murphy said Wednesday. "The play was groundbreaking in its exploration of how gay men treated each other and how they were made to feel about themselves. And while some attitudes have thankfully shifted, it's important to be reminded of what we have overcome and how much further we still have to go."

"Everything has changed. And nothing has changed," Stone added.
