Queer Rapper Slams Britney for New Single
Gender-bending queer rapper Mykki Blanco slammed Britney Spears’s new single "Work Bitch" just days after it was released, claiming the pop star is trying to make money off the LGBT community and gay culture, the Huffington Post reports.
Blanco, also a performance artist, took to Twitter to criticize Spears and her new track last Sunday, calling the song "tacky," and wondered, "is it just me or is EVERY female pop star currently in a war to secure as many GAY fans and gay $ as possible ?"
HuffPo notes that some of the tweets referencing Spears and "Work Bitch" have been deleted but OMG Blog screen capped some of the tweets.
"This shit is tacky," Blanco wrote. "Work Bitch ? lol," the musician added. "This is not ’gay pride it’s ’gay marketing’ designed to keep u fags on ecstasy blasting garbage music till 6 am."
"im quietly waiting for the ’Tumblr’ backlash," Blanco wrote. "I’m not a bitch, I’m just not an idiot."
Days before "Work Bitch" was released, it was rumored that Spears sampled drag legend RuPaul’s 1992 debut single "(Supermodel) You Better Work" for the track. "Work Bitch" did not end up sampling RuPaul’s iconic song, however.
In a similar situation, out rapper and producer Le1f sounded off on Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ marriage equality anthem "Same Love" after it earned the duo an award at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards for Best Song With a Social Message.
"do proceeds go to any gay people? the HRC? Aids foundation? or does this straight white man keep the money?" Le1f asked during his Twitter rant. "I’m gonna write a song about disabled people, or about the aboriginal struggle. cuz mama needs a new fur coat. oh wait, that’s evil."
In related Spears news, PopJustice reported that the pop diva’s eight studio album is scheduled for a Dec. 3 release and that Spears mentioned a song called "Perfume," which she created with artist/producer Sia. Spears also announced her Las Vegas residency at Planet Hollywood Tuesday morning. The residency, called "Piece of Me," starts on Dec. 27 and will continue two years with Spears performing 40 shows per year.
