Loose Cannons (Rai Cinema) is an exquisitely shot sumptuous family drama from Southern Italy (take me to the town of Lecce right now, where the streets are beautiful and the men beautifuller), with heartfelt character explorations and damn good acting all around. Tommaso, played by Riccardo Scamarcio-who’s a perfect cross between Jude Law and a young Ray Liotta-aches to continue his passionate (and passionately gay) life in Rome, but has come home to the breathtaking "sticks" because of family constraints: his father wishes to pass the reigns of the family pasta business over to him and his brother, the (hot) Antonio (Alessandro Preziosi).

His strategy is simple: come out to the whole family, anger the traditional patriarch, get kicked out and continue on his merry way. But not if his brother can do it first! The potential for change in a life path that might seem horridly unwelcome but is actually just what you need, along with love in the unlikeliest of places, makes this irreverent tale unexpectedly moving. Mix in a little Birdcage, a dash of Old-World family drama, and you’re good to go. Beautifully shot, in a beautiful language, with beautiful people. What’s not to like?
