Dynasty: The Sixth Season
With the outrageous ending to its fifth season, "Dynasty" became a bit of a laughingstock with the dreaded Moldavian Massacre. It’s obvious this wasn’t a strong cliffhanger and so the plot is quickly wrapped up in the first few episodes of "Dynasty: The Sixth Season, Volume One."
Featuring the first 15 shows of the glitzy soap that was going downhill fast, the sixth season of "Dynasty" bumps off a few characters (the awful Lady Mitchell, played by Ali McGraw), introduces a few new ones (Blake’s brother Ben), and gives Alexis (the deliciously over-the-top Joan Collins) and Krystle (Linda Evans) their annual catfight. The charm of earlier seasons of "Dynasty" is lost as Season Six has too many characters and not enough plot.
The final 15 episodes are shown in "Dynasty: The Sixth Season, Volume Two", featuring a tepid cliffhanger, as Krystle is kidnapped and the Colby’s of California are introduced. This led to a quickly cancelled spin-off and Fallon (Emma Samms) was shipped off. The stoic Blake (John Forsythe) is consistent as always, and Collins can always be counted on for a catty one-liner.
Once again, this Paramount "Dynasty" DVD release has a fair but passable video transfer, no special features as usual, yet retains all the camp it’s known for.
