Christian Legal Group Defies ABA on Gay Marriage
The American Bar Association in recent years has actively supported gay causes. The once-conservative organization has done an about-face on marriage, the military and other hot-button issues.
That doesn’t sit well with the Alliance Defense Fund, which has set itself up as a conservative alternative to the ABA. The Christian Post reported that the ADF declared that the ABA doesn’t speak for all lawyers, and that many lawyers have resigned from the ABA.
"The fact that ADF and other lawyers disagree with ABA on a number of controversial issues demonstrates the gross inaccuracy of ABA’s claim that it speaks for the U.S. legal profession," said ADF Senior Legal Counsel Doug Napier, who has resigned from the ABA.
It’s doubtful if many ADF supporters would have ventured to the ABA’s convention, being held as it was in the belly of the beast, San Francisco. The ADF was founded in 1994 by Christian activists to support the display of Christian symbols in public spaces and oppose abortion and gay rights.
ADF founder Alan Sears co-authored The Homosexual Agenda: Exposing the Principal Threat to Religious Freedom Today, and The ACLU vs. America: Exposing the Agenda to Redefine Moral Values.
