HRC Applauds Naming of Diego Sanchez to Key Legislative Staff Position for Chairman Barney Frank
The Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender civil rights group, today praised Representative Barney Frank (D-MA), Chairman, House Financial Services Committee, for naming transgender rights advocate and HRC Business Council member Diego Miguel Sanchez, APR, as his Legislative Assistant for LGBT, Healthcare, Labor, Veterans and Census issues.
Sanchez assumes the post, based in Washington, DC, on January 6, 2009, becoming the first openly transgender person to work on Capitol Hill.
"We congratulate Diego Sanchez on his new position and applaud Representative Barney Frank for this ground-breaking forward for our entire community" said Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese.

Until his appointment Sanchez served as Director of Public Relations & External Affairs for AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts, New England’s first and largest AIDS organization, and AIDS Action Council in Washington, DC.
