Toby Keith says gay marriage doesn’t bother him and trying to stop it wastes time and money.

The country superstar tells "CMT Insider" airing Saturday on CMT that he doesn’t see the reason behind getting into people’s personal lives. He says refusing a marriage license to people because they are gay won’t stop them from living together, so it accomplishes nothing.

Keith also weighed in on the military’s now-repealed "don’t ask, don’t tell" policy that banned gays serving openly in uniform. He says that anyone with the training and passion should have the right to defend the country, adding: "Somebody’s sexual preference is, like, who cares?"

The "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue" singer has taken part in nine USO tours to entertain U.S. troops overseas.

Rednecks & Hillybillies can be ignorant I met quite a few in the military they caught my interest because they had this down to earth common sense that I missed being kind of a city rat myself. Gay people we never talked about, why should we? Close to fourty years later I still listen to country music (not the only one music I like) and wear boots as I was told a man wears boots. There was this song that went like ’just leave the poor country boy alone’, these people we not stupid and certainly not greedy like them politicians using anti-gay lies to be elected. For three years I was on post at the Bad Aibling station (google it) this where I learned about them rednecks, I am Belgian and I am not surprise with what Toby Keith said as anyone not stupid would say the same. good day to y’all.
