’Girl Splash 2008’ Celebrates Women Who Love Women in P-Town
Way beyond Beach Blanket Bingo, Girl Power Events announces Girl Splash, the first "summer lesbian beach party," scheduled to take place in Provincetown July 19-26.
This first-of-its-kind event will feature a host of attractions and activities, as Girl Splash originator Lynette Molnar notes. Says Molnar in the press release, "There’s never been anything like it. Picture this: We’ll have cool all-women dance parties and hot beach parties on the only lesbian beach in the country; and first-rate, all-lesbian whale-watching trips, all-lesbian sunset dune trips, all-lesbian clambakes, all-lesbian pool parties, plus comedy shows and entertainment with nationally known stars, and more!"
Adds Molner, "Provincetown’s identity as the gayest place on earth makes it the ideal place for this event."
Molnar comes to the new event with plenty of experience to back her up, having co-produced Women’s Week each October for some year, as well as Single Women’s Weekend this past May, and originating Women of Color & Allies Weekend just last month.
Now, it’s time to head to the beach for sun and surf. Says Molnar, "This will be a very special week for women in a very special place."
Adds Molnar, "I’ve traveled all over the world and Provincetown is the only place I’ve ever been where women can walk down the street holding hands and feel totally safe."
Noted Molnar, "If you’ve never kissed another women openly at the beach or on the street feeling completely safe and proud, then come on out to Provincetown for Girl Splash!"
The brand-new event reflects what, to Molnar, has become a mission to bring women who love women together.
Says Molnar, "Many lesbians sometimes wonder where to actually find the ’community’ everyone talks about."
Adds Molnar, "Especially for women living outside urban areas, that can be hard to find. And even in cities like Boston, New York, Miami, L.A. and San Francisco, it can be hard to feel like you’re part of a larger whole."
Explains the event’s organizer, "Girl Power Events creates opportunities for women to come together and feel the power and energy of huge women’s gatherings marked by Girl Power’s trademark no-hold-barred approach to community and fun."
"Whether you want to bring your tent to camp, or camp it up in opulent style in Provincetown’s most luxurious inns, or something in between, Girl Splash in Provincetown is the place for women to be in Summer 2008," Molnar said.
From the press release: "A savvy entrepreneur, promoter, professional photographer, and activist, Lynette Molnar is a woman whose presence and radiant optimism is felt throughout the LGBT community.
"From San Francisco to Provincetown and states in between, Molnar’s passion for social issues has compelled her to create hundreds of events for the community including a number of ’firsts,’ including the first ever gay and lesbian holiday festival Holly Folly, [as well as] Single Women’s Weekend, Women of Color Weekend, The Kiss-In, and the First Good Old Fashioned Lesbian Revival, among many others.
"She also co-curated the first international art exhibition on AIDS."
But Molnar’s life isn’t one big party: she’s serious about the community, serving the HRC, GLAD, NCLR, and The Task Force in a volunteer capacity. She brings the same energy and commitment to providing a safe and fun communal space for women.
Says Molnar, "I’m really driven by social change, and that passion has really fueled me my whole life."
