Eco-Fabric :: Go Green! by Jason Salzenstein
EDGE National Style & Travel EditorWednesday May 31, 2006 Is it possible to avoid the sweltering hot pea-soup weather of New England summers without standing in front of an air-conditioner? Well, in reality, not really. But, this summer, as you’re fighting to make it through the hot New England days, you can give your feet a bit of a break. With bamboo.
No, I’m not crazy. Bamboo-based (or enhanced) fabric is the newest material popping up on the market today, in everything from pillowcases to t-shirts to, well socks.
We recently discovered this fabulous material (in the form of nano particles of activated bamboo charcoal) at use in Greenyarn’s Eco-fabric; specifically, their socks.
Yep- Greenyarn discovered that they can increase performance of ’performance’ socks by making them with Eco-fabric, including bamboo. The fabric has natural anti-bacterial and anti-fungus properties, it deodorizes, it’s breathable, regulates heat and prevents static electricity buildup. All this in a sock!
We tested a few pairs out- both on the street and in the office- and were pleasantly surprised by what we found. Not only were they more comfortable that regular cotton socks, but at the end of the day, our feet didn’t have that hot, damp, sweaty feeling, and the socks weren’t ’moist’ and sweaty.
Greenyarn is an eco-friendly company based in Boston, so by buying their products you’re not only helping to support the environment, you’re also helping a local business.
