Milk. Not Just for Drinking
Now doctors can be fashion consultants. The nutrients found in the milk you drink now feed your skin. Designer Delores Piscotta delivers a unique milk fabric that provides your skin with 17 amino acids, nourishing your skin while you strut your stuff. “Clothing could be more than fashion,” says Piscotta. “[I’m attracted to] using fibers which aside from style and comfort, impart many health benefits to the wearer.”
Developed in Asia in recent years, milk fabric comes from dehydrating cow milk being spun into a silk-like fiber. Piscotta says this fabric smoothes skin and can lessen hot flashes in women during menopause. The soft fabric feels like silk, breathes like cotton and does not hold bacteria. Piscotta has pioneered the use of the milk fabric spinning shirts, sweaters, socks and doggie wear. “I recently had a letter from a woman who wore my milk eye mask during a flight,” says Piscotta. “She remarked that it left her skin feeling smooth, refreshed and her eyes were not tired as usual from a long flight.” Piscotta’s spa line offers clothing for women of all ages with sizes from XS to XL with a variety of health benefits.
Piscotta studied fine arts and textile design at the New School making money by teaching piano and guitar. “I loved fashion but never aspired to be a fashion designer,” says Piscotta. “It evolved from the necessity to do something commercial. I have come to enjoy designing so much.” Piscotta developed her interest in unique, organic fibers after working with soybean blended cashmere employing similar health benefits to the new milk fabric. The soybean blended cashmere also helps produce collagen in the skin.
Piscotta’s new Spa Collection features her milk fabric in a variety of soothing flavors ideal for sleepwear ranging from basic nightgowns to camis to pants and tee-shirts. “My new spa collection is for someone who is fashionable, trendy and at the same time health conscious,” she says. The material holds a variety of dyes from pastels to darks and blacks all with the same silky luster.
The exclusive provider of milk fabrics, a Piscotta milk tee-shirt runs for $110, available in all sizes with a choice of colors. The aforementioned milk mask, perfect for long flights, retails for $30. To view Piscotta’s Spa Collection and the rest of her unique designs, visit www.PiscottaCashmere.com .
