EDGE Holiday Gift Guide :: Style Queens
If you’ve got someone on your list who loves fashion- in all its forms- you’re in luck. Jason Salzenstein, EDGE’s Style Editor, loves design, style, and especially the new Damier Graphite collection from Louis Vuitton (in case anyone’s wondering what to get him this year). In short, he’s a Fashionisto (or in some circles, a fashion whore).
When it comes to gifts for men of style, of course you can always go for "a label," but you could also be a bit more creative- and pick one of our suggestions below.
Nothing beats tailor made...
True style mavens- at least those who can afford it- go to Saville Row in London to have their shirts and suits custom made. For those of us on a more conservative budget, indiTailored offers a similar service- custom shirts- for substantially less.
The company’s tagline, "Your online personal tailor; custom shirts made easy," couldn’t be more true- although I would add something about it being fun as well. To order your custom shirt you simply enter some information about your body (height, weight, body type, measurements, etc.), choose the style and options you prefer on a dress shirt (color, fabric, collar, cuff, button style, etc.), and in a few weeks you’ll receive your very own custom shirt! For guys with great style but limited vision, indiTailored’s new Collection line is great. Essentially a selection of the most popular- and best looking- design and style combinations, all you have to do is enter your measurements and body type and you’re good to go.
In terms of quality, indiTailored can’t be beat, and for a unique holiday gift for a guy with great style, it doesn’t get much better than a custom shirt.
Available from about $80 at www.indiTailored.com
If they’re good enough for the queen...
Just because you don’t own a country home in the Scottish Highlands doesn’t mean that you can’t dress like you do. And while kilts are best left to the locals, we’re quite happy to adopt some U.K. styles, especially when it comes to tall boots. Hunter Boot has been making hardcore boots designed for traversing Scotland’s rugged terrain and unpredictable weather since 1856. Apparently they’ve done something right, because not only are they still going strong more than 150 years later, but they’ve also got the seal of approval from the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh.
Their Hunter green Wellingtons (AKA wellies) made them famous in the 50s- and we love them- but right now we’re mad about the Original Men’s style. They’re comfortable, inexpensive, work just as well for "cold" LA winter nights as they do in New York snowstorms, and come in an assortment of great colors, so you’re sure to find a few to match your Range Rover. The boots are still handcrafted, using a secret technique that results in a crazy-strong watertight boot that performs under the toughest conditions- and still looks great walking down the street!
Hunter Boots are available at www.Bloomingdales.com and by calling 866-593-2540. Men’s Originals run $115; other styles and colors are also available.
Not just jewelry...
You might think that those of us who celebrate Hanukkah get shafted because we don’t cut down and kill millions of perfectly good trees, hang socks full of oranges, chocolate, and chingaderas on our mantles, and no creepy old man visits us on the 25th of December. Yeah- we’re missing out. In fact, I was always a bit jealous of the kids who celebrated Christmas when I was younger, but now that I’m grown up (in theory anyway), I can appreciate the significance behind of the Festival of Lights without yearning for all the brouhaha that surrounds the more popular American holiday.
One thing I do still envy however, are the gifts. (I’m just sayin’!) Of course we do give gifts on Hanukkah, but in my family we try to stay a bit more traditional, which often means Star of David jewelry, Star of David Plates, and Star of David sweaters. (OK, so I’m kidding about the last one.) Seriously though, if you’re looking for a great gift for Hanukkah, go to Alef Bet by Paula and get everything you need in one swoop.
I’ll be honest, I discovered Alef Bet because they advertise on the EDGE site. And while you might think that means I "have to" like them, I can tell you that I wouldn’t touch some of our other advertisers with a 10-foot pole. (And don’t bother sending me an email asking me who I’m talking about- I’m not going to tell you.) Alef Bet is a great company however, and they offer a good range of products for everyone on your list.
Of course a Diamond Star of David will always score you points with the fashionable Jewish crowd, but they’ve got hundreds of other options as well. Our new favorite is a line of t-shirts featuring Jewish, Israeli, and Hebrew symbols and words, in designs that look like they should be on Robertson Boulevard in LA (and in fact, if you had lunch on the street you’d likely see a few). Styles start at about $18 for kids, $30 for adults.
