With Oakland Pride approaching on September 2, community health is once again at the forefront of the festivities, with local healthcare providers on hand to reach out to the area’s high concentration of LGBT families.

With the start of Obamacare on August 1, women accessed eight free health services. In Massachusetts, this boosts the state’s pre-existing services, acting as a boon for lesbian, bisexual and transgender women.

A recent HRC Health Equality Index report indicated that eight of Boston’s 11 area hospitals got a perfect ranking as leaders in LGBT healthcare equality, with two others suffering from being too literal in their responses.

For many HIV-positive Americans, and those who advocate on their behalf, these are days of anxious waiting as the Supreme Court ponders President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul.
