Sun WineFest at Mohegan Sun Celebrates 10 Years
Looking to escape the cold, dull city this weekend? Mohegan Sun celebrates its 10th Annual Sun WineFest Jan. 25-27 with an array of food tastings, culinary demonstrations and free-flowing cocktail parties.
Here’s the best of what the weekend has to offer, as well as tips on which celebrity chefs with whom you might be able to rub elbows (or pork shoulders):
Sun WineFest Grand Tasting
Jan. 25 - 26, noon to 5 p.m.
The Grand Tasting will have something for all, no matter what their tastes. Wine and beer aficionados can choose from more than 1,000 brands or enjoy tastings of specialty sponsor spirits. If your preference is food, signature dishes from the region’s most renowned restaurants will be available for sampling. The event will also feature celebrity chef demonstrations and contests on the Main Culinary Stage.
Jan. 25, 6 p.m.
Nothing kicks off Sun WineFest 2013 better than "America’s native spirit," bourbon. Beam Global Spirits & Wine, Plan B Burger Bar and AVO Cigars join forces to offer an evening of bourbon history and a bourbon-inspired menu.
Elite Cru Tasting
Jan. 26, 3 p.m.
The Elite Cru Tasting is an exceptional wine event featuring the "best-of-the-best" vintages from around the world. Meet the winemakers and learn the principles behind them in The Cabaret Theatre. The event features a raw bar hosted by Island Creek Oysters, shrimp from Mazzetta Company and specialty cheeses from igourmet.com.
Grape Stomp presented by Cîroc Ultra Premium Vodka
Jan. 26, 4 p.m.
Sixteen teams will test their skills as they try to get the most juice from a measured amount of grapes to benefit charity as part of the Mohegan Sun WineFest Grape Stomp, presented by the official sponsor -- Cîroc Ultra Premium Vodka. The winner will receive a well-earned prize of $1,500 and an overnight package at Mohegan Sun.
9th Annual Mohegan Sun Oyster Open presented by Bud Light Lime
Jan. 27, 4:15 p.m.
The Mohegan Sun Oyster Open, presented by Bud Light Lime, is back for its ninth year, with the nation’s best shuckers competing for a $5,000 purse! This shucking showdown will take place on the Main Stage in the Uncas Ballroom and is sure to be one of the most exciting events of the weekend.
Celebrity Chef Dine Around
Jan. 26, 8 p.m.
Enjoy the Celebrity Chef Dine Around as world-class chefs, including Bobby Flay, Todd English, Robert Irvine and Elizabeth Falkner host a night of amazing cuisine. Walk around the Uncas Ballroom as these masters prepare some of their signature dishes at live cooking stations.
Bobby, Beer and Bubbles
All Things Food With Bobby Flay
Jan. 27, 11 a.m.
Get to know the cooking secrets of one of this Emmy Award-winning chef. The afternoon will feature a high-energy cooking demonstration followed by a Q&A, all hosted by the household name who appears regularly on the Food Network.
Shared Terroir in Beer & Cheese -- Smutty Style!
Jan. 27, 12:30 p.m.
Join David Yarrington, director of brewing operations at Smuttynose Brewing Co., inside Todd English’s Tuscany. Yarrington will expose the art of pairing his specialty ales with artisanal cheeses from here and abroad. He will also be comparing and contrasting his exceptional brews with double-aged goudas, creamy blues, very old cheddars and several other intriguing cheeses like Red Dragon and Pierre Robert. This seminar will also be featuring ParadoX, an India Pale Ale created especially for Sun WineFest’s 10th anniversary.
Bubbles & Bon Bons
Jan. 27, 6 p.m.
Top off your weekend like any fine meal -- with dessert and Champagne. Enjoy decadent desserts, plenty of bubbles and the chance to mingle with the weekend’s participating chefs.
