The body of a man found on a Provincetown beach on Monday morning has been identified as Shannon T. Fleming, 42, of Albany, N.Y., as reported by the web site Wicked Local Provincetown and the Provincetown Banner.

His identify was revealed on Tuesday by Michael Trudeau, Cape & Islands first assistant district attorney.

"Preliminary investigation suggests that foul play was not involved," he said in the Banner report.

He added that an autopsy will be conducted on Tuesday or Wednesday but toxicology tests may take weeks before the results will be made public.

"I don’t think we’ll have the final results for some time," he said.

The location of the body was said to be, according to the Banner, "close to the high-water line under the deck where, at night, men are known to congregate."

"The investigation would suggest that he was on the beach area and not in the water [when he died]," Trudeau said Monday.

The area, euphemistically known as the Dick Dock, has been a late-night hook-up spot for decades. It is beneath the deck of the Boatslip, a popular resort best-known for its daily tea dances during the season.

Fleming was found early on Monday by one or more dogwalkers, who called the police. Detectives from the State Police were called in.

Fleming’s death occurred at the start of Carnival, the busiest tourist week of the year in Provincetown, which peaks on Thursday when the annual parade brings upwards of 50,000 people to the Cape Cod resort.
