The president of the Barilla pasta company made waves this week for saying that he won’t use same-sex couples in advertising, and if gays don’t like it, they can eat another brand. Well, the Human Rights Campaign is doing just that, and is urging the LGBT community to pick from five LGBT-friendly pasta brands that support equal rights.

"Now, more than ever, consumers are sending a message that they are watching to see if the businesses they patronize understand and honor issues important to them," HRC writes. "Buyers have the power to vote with their dollar for companies that practice corporate social responsibility.

"So, should you find yourself without the taste for a piping hot plate of Barilla pasta tonight, here are a few LGBT-friendly pasta companies to satisfy your carb craving."

The first pasta they introduce is Market Pantry from Target Corp, which has a perfect 100 score from the organization’s corporate equality index.

"Target scored a 100 percent on HRC’s Corporate Equality Index in 2012," HRC writes. "Go ahead and serve yourself a heaping spoonful of their store-brand pasta, Market Pantry, without the guilt of supporting LGBT inequality."

HRC also suggests Chef Boyardee from ConAgra Foods, which boasts a 95 CEI score, and DeBoles and Rosetto pastas from Hain Celestial Group, which has a 90 CEI score. Rounding out the fantastic five is Macaroni Grill from General Mills, which, like Target Corp, also has a perfect 100 CEI score.

"And if you find yourself in the mood for carbs on-the-go, why not opt for Macaroni Grill? This 100 percenter is owned by General Mills, a long time supporter of LGBT equality," HRC writes.

Pasta lovers also may want to check out Buitoni. The pasta company’s officials took to Facebook Friday morning to post a new ad that shows their support for the LGBT community.

That moron from Barilla should have thought out his comments better... It’s not just the gays that can and will eat other pasta brands, how about our friends, families and supporters! I’m not African American, yet anyone that bad mouths one will hear about it from me in a major way! You never know who you’ll offend when you use hate speech! Hater be warned!!
